My name is Michael (Mykhaylo) Shtekel. I'm a Ukrainian photographer, journalist, and producer based in Odesa. My work mainly focuses on Russia’s war against Ukraine, its impact on civilians, and the ways people preserve ordinary life under extraordinary circumstances.
Working across documentary photography, reportage and portraiture, I am interested in the relationship between people, place, and memory. The projects tend to combine direct observation with a journalistic approach to context, accuracy and visual storytelling.
